Forest & Harvest
Out of all the countries in the world, Indonesia offers the largest range of varieties of rattan for commercial use. It therefore offers a specific type of rattan for every kind of use.
Rattan is a climbing palm and grows like a vine in the tropical forest. The harvest of rattan does not disturb disturbs the habitat of the flora and fauna in the forest in any way. As we all know the tropical rain forest is sadly being reduced at high speed.
Due to this decrease, nowadays some rattan varieties are being cultivated in abandoned rubber wood plantations to meet the world wide demand of rattan products.
Even though the suppliers are more in control of the production process in these plantations, it is difficult to meet the same high quality as rattan growing in its natural habitat.
From jungle or plantations, the job of collecting rattan is a very difficult and harsh task due to the fact that rattan vines are covered with hooks and spikes.
After the harvest the first few weeks are critical for future quality. It’s the details that matter.
